Visiting Companions

Our free Visiting Companions service helps older adults who feel isolated and lonely rediscover the joy of connection and community. Whether you choose to receive companionship or volunteer to provide it, you’ll experience the meaningful benefits of building a friendship.

When signing up to be paired with a Visiting Companion, you can expect:
• Once Friends & Co completes your in-home assessment, we will start the pairing process.
• The pairing process can take up to several months, depending on geographic location and companion availability. Please note that you will be paired with a Visiting Companion who lives within 20 minutes of you.
• Upon pairing, you will receive a call from a Friends & Co staff member or volunteer and an email with the following information about your match – their full name, phone number, and city.
• Your background-checked companion will also receive your name, phone number, and some information you shared during your in-home assessment.
• Your Visiting Companion will call you to introduce themselves within a week. This first phone call is a time to share more about yourself and determine when and how frequently you and your companion would like to visit. Most Visiting Companions visit 1-2 times a month.
• If your companion doesn’t reach out within a week, please contact us at 612-746-0737 to let us know.
• You and your companion are welcome to meet at your home or out in the community. It is your responsibility to provide your own transportation for visits that take place outside your home. All Visiting Companions have attended an orientation and have cleared background checks.

Our Visiting Companions service is available to you if you:
• Are 70 years or older
• Live in Minnesota
• Have few friends or social opportunities
• Are looking for meaningful connections
