Meet Judy L.

Judy was born and raised in Wisconsin, and like many people, she ultimately settled just a short distance from where her life began.

In 2023, Judy’s life changed dramatically when she learned she was losing her vision. This loss profoundly affected her day‑to‑day independence, including her ability to drive—a freedom she dearly misses, having last been behind the wheel that same year. Adjusting to this change has been one of the most challenging chapters of her life.

Animals have always been central to Judy’s heart. At one point, she had as many as sixteen dogs and once ran a hobby farm filled with animals of all kinds, especially horses, which she loves deeply. She spent time rescuing racing greyhounds from the Hudson racetrack and continues to care for animals today, including her African grey parrot and her beloved Maltipoo. While her days are now quieter, her bird and dog provide her with comfort and companionship during long stretches of solitude.

Judy is an ENFP by nature—curious, expressive, and motivated by a desire to understand and help others. She is an avid learner who loves engaging with the world intellectually and creatively. Music plays a major role in her life: she plays piano, a little guitar, and the alto saxophone, and she often sings at home. She enjoys all genres of music and continues to explore new creative outlets, such as painting with acrylics, crocheting, knitting, and learning Spanish through Duolingo. Recently, she even invested in tap shoes and a portable floor so she can learn to dance while seated.

Judy values meaningful conversation. She enjoys talking about ideas, opinions, and how life used to be—not just surface‑level topics like the weather. She feels most at ease with people who are older or share similar life experiences, though she remains open to connecting with someone younger if there is mutual understanding and curiosity. What matters most to her is feeling heard and being able to speak freely. She is not looking for someone to take care of her or to intervene on her behalf. What she wants most is a genuine conversational partner: someone she can talk to openly, exchange ideas with, laugh with, and feel less alone.
