Doug has led a richly international life shaped by curiosity, learning, and a sense of adventure. He has a natural warmth that makes him a pleasure to be around. Born in Chicago and raised alongside three sisters, he spent much of his childhood abroad due to his father’s work with the State Department. Doug lived in Washington, D.C., as well as Bolivia, Uruguay, and Colombia, attending bilingual schools and becoming fluent in Spanish. These early experiences sparked a lifelong interest in culture, economics, and global perspectives.
Doug lives in a memory care community in St. Paul, where he benefits from support due to short-term memory changes that make solo outings challenging. Physically capable, sociable, and eager for connection, he would greatly benefit from the additional mental stimulation and companionship you can provide.
He studied political science at Stanford and went on to earn master’s degrees in social sciences and library sciences. Doug built a career working in libraries and community colleges across the country, including Pittsburgh, Wyoming, and Colorado. He has taught English as a Second Language, economics, and even translated economics texts from Spanish to English.
Doug enjoys intellectual conversation—especially about current events, liberal politics, social sciences, and economics. But he also has a playful side and appreciates humor and good-natured banter. He has a deep love for animals, having had dogs and cats throughout his life, and enjoys sharing stories about them.
An outdoors enthusiast, Doug has spent years hiking, riding his motorcycle, and windsurfing. He now lives in St. Paul and is eager to explore local gems like parks, museums, concerts, and the Como Conservatory.
Doug is a great match for a companion who enjoys engaging conversation, is talkative and reflective, and open to getting out and about.
