Hank has lived a life shaped by curiosity, movement, and a thoughtful interest in people and society. He grew up in New Jersey before relocating at age 15 to Indiana, where he attended high school in Indianapolis. His early academic interests led him to Indiana University, where he spent a couple of years exploring subjects that would continue to influence his life—particularly social theory and sociology.
Hank moved to Chicago, where he lived for five years and completed degrees in sociology and psychology. He worked as a juvenile probation officer in the 1960s, and he was part of an effort to guide and protect young people navigating the justice system. It was a complex role as many of the kids misunderstood probation officers as police, but Hank’s focus was always on advocacy and support for the youth he served.
After his time in Chicago, Hank spent several years moving and exploring different places, including Madison, Portland, and San Jose. He eventually settled in Minneapolis in 1975. Though he moved back to Chicago a couple of times, he found himself drawn back to Minneapolis, ultimately making it his long-term home.
Music has been a constant thread throughout Hank’s life. He has a deep appreciation for listening, especially to jazz, and he also plays guitar. Alongside music, Hank is an avid reader, gravitating mostly toward fiction. He has a particular appreciation for authors like Patrick Modiano.
Hank describes himself as introspective. While he is friendly with a few people in his building, he feels that few people truly know him well. In recent years, he has noticed a decline in his energy and strength, which has contributed to a quieter lifestyle. At this stage in his life, Hank is seeking companionship that aligns with his values and perspective. He hopes to connect with someone who shares a similar life stage—ideally another older adult—who can offer thoughtful conversation and mutual understanding. He values education and the sense of perspective that often comes with it, expressing a preference for someone who is interested in reflective discussions and meaningful dialogue.
