Lucille is a gentle, optimistic woman with a wonderful outlook on life. Apart from the last few weeks, she’s been feeling energetic and healthy, and she enjoys being 103. A lifelong St. Paul resident, she grew up in a close-knit family with her Hungarian father, Balent—nicknamed “Baldy” — her mother, Emma, and sister, Dorothy.
Lucille attended Washington High School, where she excelled, especially in bookkeeping and shorthand. Those early skills shaped her career: she worked for a large insurance company and later spent 18 years with the St. Paul Police Department. It wasn’t always easy—the officers could be a bit rough around the edges—but she liked the challenge and the people.
Lucille married her sweetheart, Kenneth, when she was 22. They shared a happy life together until his sudden passing from a heart attack when she was only 41. With her children, Harlan, and Cheryl, then just 13 and 16, Lucille became a single mother with little support. Between her full-time job, volunteering at her kids’ schools, and keeping up their big yard, she had no time for hobbies, but she found joy in watching her children grow, laugh, and learn.
Lucille’s apartment catches the afternoon sun, and she likes to sit by the window, cheering on her beloved Minnesota Twins, though she’s still miffed they traded one of her favorite players.
Lucille would love a new friend to share in good conversation in the afternoon or early evening. She hopes to meet someone kind, good-natured, and, like her, a non-smoker who appreciates the beauty of ordinary days well-lived.
