Originally from Kenya, Sidney came to the United States at age 20 to attend the University of Minnesota, where he studied business. After completing his education and later earning a master’s degree, he built a career that spanned both higher education and corporate America. He worked at the University of Minnesota before moving into the financial services industry, where he held roles in finance and project management.

Sidney enjoyed working and found great satisfaction in his professional life. Although he is now retired, he admits that he misses the social interaction that came with his career. Today, much of his time is devoted to caring for his mother, who will turn 93 this year. Sidney helps by taking her to appointments and welcoming her to his home on weekends. His two sisters still live in Kenya, and every Saturday he and his mother join them for a family call. Sidney has also been navigating some health challenges of his own, having recently been diagnosed with cancer.

A lifelong lover of the arts, Sidney is particularly passionate about theater. His interest began with a theater class in college and eventually led him to volunteer as an usher at several local venues, including Theatre in the Round, Chimera Theatre, and the Guthrie Theater. He currently holds a Guthrie subscription and has attended five seasons, enjoying many of the productions. When he’s not at the theater, he enjoys going to the movies, especially comedies and other lighter films.

At this stage in life, Sidney is seeking companionship because he would like to reconnect with people and build a stronger sense of community. Living alone, he misses the regular social interaction that once came naturally through work and other activities. He enjoys relaxed conversations about everyday life, current events, politics, getting older, and the realities of living with a chronic illness. Having lost touch with many friends from his corporate career, he is hoping to meet others who appreciate genuine conversation and mutual support.

For Sidney, a good friend is someone who is both a good listener and willing to share their own thoughts and experiences. He values easygoing, balanced conversations without agendas or expectations. Above all, he hopes to connect with people who enjoy talking, listening, and building meaningful friendships.
