Sarah joined our Coffee Talk (our free phone line where older adults can connect with a friendly volunteer for conversation) team earlier this spring, and we’re so glad to have her! She has an incredible emotional awareness that allows her to pick up on what our callers are feeling, provide an empathetic listening ear and recognize the topics that bring them joy and laughter.
Along with taking calls through Coffee Talk, Sarah jumped into a couple more of our programs. She tried out our Visiting Companion Program (a program where volunteers visit older adults in their homes) and is also a Phone Companion (a program that matches volunteers with older adults for weekly phone conversations) to someone she first met through Coffee Talk.
We appreciate Sarah’s willingness to support older adults in so many ways, including sharing Coffee Talk with people in her own community.
What inspires you to volunteer?
I enjoy helping others, I’ve always been an empath, and finding healthy ways to share my time fills my (love tank)
What do you enjoy about Friends & Co?
I enjoy the conversations I’ve had with all the callers! They really make my week brighter!
What is a memorable moment that reflects the connections you’ve made?
When I called a complete stranger and chatted to check in on her and we instantly hit it off and now are regular companions!
