Ric Landers first connected with Friends & Co at one of our Let’s Do Coffee gatherings (a relaxed space where people come together to connect and build community.) Before long, Ric was a familiar and valued presence, showing up regularly and forming meaningful connections in the group.
As his involvement deepened, Ric has stepped into a variety of volunteer roles. From volunteering at our in-person coffee gatherings to handmaking cards and helping prepare them for shipping with our Cards Connect program (handmade cards sent seasonally to older adults).
If you’re lucky, you just might catch Ric playing a tune on his mandolin at one of our gatherings!
What inspires you to volunteer?
I’ve always been a giver. Friends & Co gave me direction and support during an extremely difficult period of my life which inspires me to give back to the organization in every way I can.
What do you enjoy about Friends & Co?
I love the opportunities to be involved with the wonderful programs and volunteer opportunities offered by Friends & Co. Helping others is the foundation of my life, and Friends & Co gives me the chance to do that.
What is a memorable moment that reflects the connections you’ve made?
Honestly, meeting Jethra and Rosemary is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. They made me feel like part of the family from the first moment we met. Fraser referred me to Queermunity. Queermunity led me to Friends & Co. Jethra and Rosemary were there for me when I needed a soft shoulder and friendship the most. I couldn’t be here without them.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I specifically want to thank Jethra and Rosemary for being the kindest gentlest friends I have ever had. I don’t know what would have happened without their love and support. I’m humbled by this recognition. Thank you for everything ❣️🙏
