Ángela Jiménez

Volunteer of the month October 2026

Ángela discovered Friends & Co through Facebook, and it’s lucky for us that she did! She has become a valued volunteer at two of our monthly in-person gatherings: Let’s Do Lunch Café and Café y Conversaciones.

What makes Ángela such a wonderful volunteer is her willingness to jump right in, roll up her sleeves, and help wherever she’s needed. From filling (and refilling!) water pitchers and helping participants carry their meals, to boxing up leftovers and vacuuming after the group has gone home, there truly is no job too big or too small for Ángela.

Ángela describes herself as a queer woman of color who grew up in Mexico. Through her volunteer roles, she is able to connect with and celebrate important parts of her identity while helping create welcoming spaces for others. It is no surprise that she shines in these roles. In many ways, the older adults who attend Let’s Do Lunch Café and Café y Conversaciones may see a younger version of themselves in Ángela, and she, in turn, helps them feel seen, valued, and connected.

Beyond all she does behind the scenes, Ángela brings warmth, kindness, and a genuine spirit of service to every gathering. We’re grateful for the energy and care she shares with our community, and we’re thrilled to recognize her as our volunteer of the month.

Building a sense of community with elders is very important to me. As an immigrant and queer person, I wanted to connect with folks that were comfortable to share their lived experiences. I’m happy I could find these opportunities at Friends & Co.

I love the mission and values because they resonate with me. I also love to see them embodied by the staff. Big shoutout to Jethra, because her kindness and enthusiasm light up a room, and makes me want to show up in a similar way to our events.

Café & Conversaciones is like a big family gathering with my tíos, tías, and abuelos. I know we will share a laugh, hugs, and great food. It is like I have a little piece of home everytime we meet.

Thank you for facilitating ways to connect with our elders. Intergenerational programs are crucial to keep building bridges and sharing. We never stop learning and we could all benefit from connecting with people of different ages and backgrounds.
Keep up the good work!
